The ultimate topper
maintenance guide

Sensory Adaptation
"Umm… What is this? Who invited her?"
Whenever you introduce something new to your body—contact lenses, dental work, hair extensions, or a clip-on topper—your body basically goes, “Umm… What is this? Who invited her?” Totally normal. It’s called sensory adaptation, which is a fancy way of saying your scalp and senses are getting to know your new topper and deciding it’s actually not an intruder.
For the first few days (or even a couple of weeks), it’s completely expected for your topper to feel a little unfamiliar. You might notice the weight, the texture, or just the general “hi, I’m new here” vibe on your head. This is temporary, and your scalp will chill out soon.
To build comfort and confidence, try wearing your topper consistently and start in low-pressure places—like running errands or grocery shopping. Basically, environments where you’re unlikely to bump into your ex, your boss, or anyone who makes you want to pretend you’re naturally perfect 24/7. The more you wear it, the more natural it’ll feel. Before long, it’ll blend in so well you’ll forget there was ever an adjustment period—like it’s been part of you all along.
Cleanse and hydrate
Did you know? Shampoo’s main goal is to strip the hair of oils around the root area. Therefore, we want to focus our shampoo only on our roots and conditioner mid length to ends.

Apply Conditioner Carefully
When applying conditioner to a topper you can go closer to the root area just be sure not to rub it into the lace. (REMEMBER: your topper doesn’t produce oils like your scalp does so it needs a tad more MOISTURE).
Massage the Shampoo
Start by gently massaging the shampoo at the base of the scalp & topper with a side to side, horizontal motion with your fingers, getting product in between and/or under your topper, and onto your scalp.
Apply Conditioner
Next, leave the shampoo at the root while you apply conditioner to your mid-length area, and ends!
Wait and Rinse
Leave everything on for 5 minutes, then rinse out together. This allows the shampoo to cleanse the ends without stripping moisture!
Drying & styling
Your topper is 100% premium human hair and can be blow-dried and heat styled.
IMPORTANT Always use a salon-grade heat protectant—skipping it can dry out the hair, cause breakage, and even fade your colour in ONE use (not exaggerating). Good news: extension hair usually holds style longer. If you flat iron daily to blend, heat protectant every single time. No exceptions.
Drying: Let your natural hair + topper air dry to about 80%, then blow-dry. This reduces heat damage and extends the life of your topper. If air drying makes your scalp itchy, blow-dry just the roots and topper base, and let the rest air dry.
Blow-drying: Use mid heat (high only for very coarse hair). Blow-dry the part line vertically for natural volume. You can refresh volume daily by lightly misting and blow-drying.
Heat styling: Use professional tools only, always with heat protectant.
| HAIR TYPE | RECOMMENDED HEAT SETTING |
|---|---|
| Fine/processed hair | Start around 250°F |
| Thicker/coarser hair | Increase as needed |
| WARNING | Avoid max heat (450°F)—this can permanently damage hair. |

Day & night routines
Maintain the longevity and quality of your topper with these simple daily habits.
We suggest a loose, low ponytail to sleep and using a satin/silk pillowcase to help prevent any friction that could cause tangling or matting while you sleep.
If your hair is prone to tangling in the back, two loose french braids will help prevent friction and matting as you sleep.

Brush through your hair gently, starting from bottom and working your way to the top of the wefts. Ensure that you can run your fingers through the hair without any tangles or snags.
Add an oil/serum into your hair to give your hair back the moisture it lost to the atmosphere and to your pillowcase as you slept.

Can I still go to the gym?
Of course, lightly use dry shampoo at your roots before your session. After, blow dry excess dry shampoo.
Some sunscreen = orange hair
We suggest a mineral sunscreen without oxybenzone or avobenzone.
Beach or boat day
Bring your detangler with you and UV protectant. Use midshaft to end it will keep your hair from drying out.
Swimming
If you swim often, you must consider that the chlorine and salt will cause your hair to become brittle. Its best to use a deep conditioner on your hair while swimming to create a barrier.
